Directed by Thomas Palance, Orchestra on the Hill will present a concert featuring music representing the past 375 years of classical and pop music. Soloists (who are all Ipswich residents) include Thomas Palance (piccolo), Jody Heffernan (flute), and Pierre Belperron (cello). Musical selections include those by Henry Purcell and Gabriel Faure. The concert will feature two world premiers: an arrangement of Cole Porter songs by Jerry Ascione which will showcase the talented singer Cecelia Lie; and “Phantom’s Fire,” inspired from a painting by local artist Aline Blanchard, which was commissioned for the event and written by Ipswich composer Greg Naeger. The concert will also include a narration about historical Ipswich events and how they parallel the music the orchestra will be performing. Orchestra on the Hill is based at First Church in Ipswich which celebrates its own 375th anniversary in 2009.
